Remaking Outer Wilds Black Hole Shader

 

Some other fun tech art-y stuff from this project…

 

The Brittle Hollow mesh was generated in like five minutes with Houdini. Basically just fracturing a sphere into a bunch of chunks, deforming them, offsetting them, and randomly blasting out some pieces.

 

Also did a custom atmosphere shader based on this GPU Gems article: https://developer.nvidia.com/gpugems/gpugems2/part-ii-shading-lighting-and-shadows/chapter-16-accurate-atmospheric-scattering

It’s not super accurate though, since this is a hollow planet, so a lot of the atmosphere calculations don’t make sense, but it works for this use case
